Le Vote Jochen Gerz Cr 328 Web

It was said of a neighboring tribe that a choice (vote) was only valid if it could be upheld before the following seven generations.

… Gerz puts forward the notion of a society whose decisions remain valid for seven generations. People are depicted like shadows; although they do not control their environment or the speed of their progress as much as we do, they do have the power to think in such mind frames as to dominate memory and determine the future. "The viewer's place is somewhere else" says Gerz, and he succeeds in making it painfully clear where that place is…. the observer, to whom the images within the fragmented photos and the intonation of the text seems so familiar, finds in the comparative reflection only the opposite: a society in which most decisions have to be revoked by the same generation. A discourse before one's inner eye.
