THE PAST
In his photo and word installations that refer increasingly to the medium of television, particularly to the turning on and off of images, Gerz recreates that distance and brings forth a place for contemplation. The real pictures come about in the viewer’s head. The unattainable image “inbetween”, in the gap in the middle, is pushed to extremes by Gerz in “ERASE. THE PAST”, (1990).
