Lack and absence, the exile of anguished man, take on grandiose dimensions in the real artist which grant him means just as grand, sublime or "unusual" for moving beyond them and exorcising them. This "absent" thing, recalled in the Heideggerian notion of das Ding, corresponds to what Julia Kristeva has termed the chora sémiotique. This is the moving space of an archaic state of fusion with the source of all good (the mother), the prior condition to constitution of language and symbolization.
